Burning Man 2023

The rain made it better than dusty 2022.

Another year of managing the Legal Observer project alongside about 40 public defenders, death row experts, private criminal defense, and civil rights litigators.

This was our first year running an official camp. Thus came the responsibility of providing structure, shade, and power to all of the volunteers in addition to figuring out the gas situation for the LO pickup trucks and of course managing paperwork. Oh and its burning man so doing all that with the backdrop of complete insanity is always fun.

This year’s yurt inhabitants were myself, Jill, and Aimee. It was 12 days of dealing with each other in the heat and rain and mud and everyone else and I think we’re all still friends.

Its funny how you can go a year with nothing really memorable and your emotions hovering around a typical baseline and then spend 12 days at burning man where the highs and lows are crazier than the entire proceeding year. The only thing I can closely compare it to was the 17 days I spent riding my bicycle from Seattle to SF. I’m pretty sure my life during the rest of the year isn’t boring either. BM is just so intense theres nothing like it and thats why I keep heading back despite all of the BS you have to put up with.

I’ll be back in 2024 for a smoother running LO project and to have another great year in the dust. If you read this and want to run into me next year, go look for the BRC Municipal Court and ask for HandleBar.

Enjoy the photos.
